      1. If that had actually happened, Kaveri (and all of us) would have been dead! That song is something else! Leaves me tongue-tied always. I cannot imagine how anyone could ever listen to those words and walk away. But I can very well imagine AV singing it, and dear god would that have been a sight!

  1. Awesome, Meera.

Some stood out more than others:
    Sapna Jahaan
    Deedar Ho gaya
    Anisuthide :) :)

And of course, Dil mein sanam ki surat (it was already in the tape AV Sir gave KKG)

Have you heard this one? Another Sonu Nigam gem from Gaalipata.

    1. Doesn’t make sense to post a Kannada song without writing what it conveys. And because I cannot claim to have a very good knowledge of the language, I decided to borrow (most of) the translation (after making sure it makes sense ;))

β€œMinchaagi Neenu Baralu” (you come as ligtening)

When you come as a lightening, it rains wherever I stand
When you are with me, it is warm and nice, since it is like winter where we sit
The heat of separation burns me, it is like summer in my heart
Now, where is the reason for me to live?

I am a debtor who has taken the poem in your heart on debt
I bear equal share in stealing old memories with you
This pain of mine, I will never give you
All said and asked, first, I am a robber (of your heart)…

      1. I have been hesitant in posting this one — since I had dedicated this song for an Arnav Interlude earlier. But here it goes, for its sheer beauty: “Tum ne mujhe dekha”

      1. This is totally Khushi song for me!
There was a time after book 2 every single day I have played this song until AV made a presence and uttered the dialogue “I hope you find everything you want here….” (At the coffee table orientation day!) Sigh!!! That wait!!!

  2. I had once requested that you make them sing this song on the IF thread you had for riverπŸ˜„

P.S: Went searching for my post on IF, here it isπŸ˜„
“Meera, no story or two characters has got me in a tizzy of late like this story and characters of yours. Its almost like my journey with ipk, like you have written in one of the chapters, when someone doesn’t want to fall, they go ahead and fall really hard. That was my experience with ipk. I guess its that sense of nostalgia that you evoke. No I didn’t do engineering, but colleges are similar in some ways, aren’t they. Would it be strange to say that I can’t wait for you to complete this story so that I can read it in one go.
And could you get them to sing bahon ke darmiyan at some point?
Thank you for sharing your stories with us, believe me they bring lot of joy to one’s life.”

  3. Loved the list you put up Meera — so many that tug at my heartstrings and on my list of favorite playlists— sigh!!!

I remember commenting with just 3 – 4 songs that I would have loved to see…..
Tumhe ho na ho, mujko toh itna yakeen hai
Pyaar maangaa hai tumhi se, na inkaar karo
Hamein tumse pyaar kitna (both male and female)
Kyon zindagi ki raah mein majboor ho gaye

  4. You may have opened the pandora’s box asking us which songs we felt should have been river songs😁
Ok so I went back and went through the comments for chapter 15D, the heart break chapter, when it had become heartbreak central with folk posting songs. I may have missed out some but this is a list of songs that were posted then:
    1) Tujhe yaad na meri aayi (posted by Twiggy)
    2) Tadap tadap
    3) Sau dard
    4) Ajeeb dastan ( mentioned by meenu)
    5) Maine dilse kaha
    6) Hamari adhuri kahani
    7) Zaroori tha
    8) Main tenu samjhawan ki
    9) Phir le aya dil
    10) Tinka tinka
    11) Sheesh ho ya dil ho
    12) Zindagi ek safar hai suhana
    13) Pehle pyaar ka pehla gham
    14) Yenge yenathu kavithai (lavzy I had replied to the person who posted it that I had been thinking of the song since I read the chapter!)
    15) Yeh kya hua kaise hua
    16) Tune jo na kaha
    17) Tu jaane na
    18) Tum bin jiya jaye kaise
    19) Jag soona soona (posted by Nivi)

  5. I just couldn’t bring myself to borrow it from your little piece!

Trust you to put my name up there when I had nothing to do with that masterpiece! This isn’t my song! It is their’s! You should have used it jaana, (borrowed seems a huge word!) This one fits like a glove! Would have died and gone to heaven if you had touched it in your own special way. :)

But I am with you for putting it up there, right on the top. This song goes above all for me. It is one of the finest and greatest compositions ever! Every single time I listen to it, it’s a guaranteed goosebumpy ride. So muah muah!

Hamesha Tumko Chaha! Yes I wanted it there. And Aapki Aankhon Mein…I so so so wanted this one in the story! This ones suits them both so much!!!

I loved the collection here as well, Meeru. :) I wanna go back, think and come back here again. So till then, Muah!

    1. OH MY GOD! How did I miss.. O Saathi Re!? God I love it so so much! That song is … I dunno what it is! A feeling? An emotion? An experience? Gulzar ji & Vishal B. Bas, aur kya!

  6. I have no clue why I love this song so much, it is one of the top five on my everyday playlist. I had thought of this one for AV at some point of time… but it is such a rare one from Kishore, I dont think many know it. But the lyrics…. sigh! No words!

  7. Here I’m with a few songs I feel would have made river songs
Aur ho from Rockstar (would have captured his angst in those years especially after that second meeting at the river)
    Tum ho from Rockstar again
Uyire uyire from Bombay (there is more magic in the tamil version!)
Tu mile dil khile (it would feature on any 90s list wouldn’t it?!)

    1. Tum mile dil khile — always liked the Hindi version better than the Telugu one (I have watched Criminal in Telugu). Almost posted this song during the final chapters, dropped it for the visuals :(

Appu used to be especially good at trying to trip you!
We are going to put our little grey cells to work now thinking up questions for you to answerπŸ˜„ I’m sure there will be plenty if we were to read between lines!!

    2. Tu mile is such a favourite. Yes goes up on the list. The only reason it didn’t make it is because I prefer the β€œpyaar kabhi marta nahi…” stanza and it is unfortunately too much for the River… suited the film though. But you know the part that gets to be every time in the video… the little interlude where Nagarjuna and Manisha come to Ranga’s house for lunch or something and ufff… there is something about unrequited love of that intensity

  8. Aur ho seriously has to go on the list Meera! What do you think of the song?

I really want to know what happened on the night when Khushi visited NK’s place for the first time… his thought process when he saw her sleeping On the couch away from him and next day morning when he walks in and sings raat ka nasha song along with her! Please Meeraaaaaaaaaaa………..

    1. Permanent Disquiet (Interlude) …more of it ….part 2 maybe Meera πŸ™‚! You had put a note saying if it would make sense! It makes sense completely! That was one Interlude!!!! Wish for more πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

  9. Similar to Khushi’s “Pehla Nasha” in the audi, another song I can think of, for a situation that leads her to an emotional/romantic high — “Pal bhar mein yeh, kya ho gaya?” from Swami.

      1. I see both “Falak tak” and “Tu mile”. 😊
One song which doesn’t quite suit the River situations (but perhaps T with T?) is “Churaake dil mera goriya chali”. Someone’s getting greedy. 😊

    1. I have always loved this one. And then there are these songs from “Jaanam” — I think that was the film that resurrected Anu (he called himself ‘A-new’) Malik.
      “Paagalpan chaa gaya” [ inspired :( ]
      “Mere dil ka pata”
      “Dil kyon dhadakta hai?”

      1. I love this song. Something about it always makes me play it one more time!

πŸ˜„ a-new! Never heard this album before Vinnuu…Liked dil kyun dhadkta hainπŸ˜€

Anu Malik I started recognizing him since β€œoonchi hain Building β€œπŸ˜†πŸ˜„…pre that I am not sure about his songs…if I hear him I will surely can tell but don’t know his songs πŸ™ƒ

        1. Lavuu.. he has a “Saajan mera us paar hai” (Ganga Jamuna Saraswati) marked against his name — from the late 80’s. And before that Sohni Mahiwal. But the transformation was really in 1991.
It’s almost unbelievable that he did Judwa and that Baba Sehgal movie and several such.. LOL!

      2. Jaanam! Dil Kyun Dhadakta was a favourite! Did you like songs from ‘Sir’? I loved him the most in Phir Teri and Asoka. Brilliant stuff that.
Vini, you are my twin, period. EK DIN se idhar udhar hogaya dammit! :P Identical one perhaps. We think similar, like similar… I think we shared a brain! πŸ˜†

            1. Bollywood and inspiration go a long way (not defending Anu here ;) ), I was most pained to know about these three and not as much from the likes of Anu Malik, Anand Milind, Nadeem Shravan et. al.

Yeh hai Bombay meri jaan — Oh my darling Clementine
Itna na mujh se tu pyaar badhaa – Mozart Symphony 40

Mozart ko bhi choda nahi πŸ˜†

Till date, Nadeem-Shravan haven’t acknowledged that “Aisee Deewanagi Dekhi Nahin Kahin” is not an original πŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯

              1. Ants go marching is a bomb! 😁
You forgot RD, Vini. They all did it. Even Shankar Jaikishen. Maybe that’s why Madan Mohan is up there for me. His songs were classical based, but then again I won’t be surprised if he’s done t too …& I would be seriously hurt if I get to know about it. πŸ˜”

    1. That’s indeed a very good one. My teacher used to sing it on every Teacher’s Day. This song is what came to mind when I first saw Meera’s title :)

  10. This came on the radio as I was out and about today and I thought, ha this could’ve been a river song. Plus it is sung by Kaveri Khushi Gupta’s favorite or one of them!
